Why All the Fuss?

When we started selling packs, it was hard to decide what hiking backpacks to stock. No company should be more interested in making money than offering quality merchandise.

We decided to embark on the search for the best hiking backpacks around. It was not easy. First, there had to be tons of research carried out. Then out of the top 10, we conducted tests in the field in search of the best.

Those backpacks went everywhere (well, everywhere one can go in 6 months). Our test subjects (talking about the bags, not the hikers) went on day hikes, weekend hikes and even days of hiking. From the Inca Trail in Peru to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa and even to the nature trail in the hometown.

Before we get started with the reviews, you need to catch up on some basics about hiking backpacks. Hiking backpacks are just bags specially designed for walking (and climbing) while exploring nature.

There are hiking backpacks intended for one-day hikes and others designed for multiple day trips. They differ from ordinary backpacks because they are made specifically to deal with the ordeals that come along with hiking- the constant thirst, long tiring trails, extreme weather conditions and not forgetting the large amount of gear you have to carry with you.

1. G4Free Hiking Backpack – high capacity, handy and lightweight

This 22.8″ X 13.4″ X 7.8″ backpack comes in 7 colors- black, dark blue, gray, light blue, orange/red, purple/red and yellow/green. When not in use, just fold it up into a small carry case that is just 9.4″ X 7.8″ X 3.9″-designed to fit even in your car’s glove compartment.

It has a drawstring lock instead of the usual zipper lock. That means you get more or less slack as required.

It’s roomy. This is definitely its greatest asset. A 40 liters backpack will fit everything including a hammock. It has 1 main compartment with a top double-sided pouch, 2 Top pouches (interior and exterior), 1 front Spandex Pouch, 2 Sports Bottle holders, and a chest Clip on the strap.

This hiking bag is extremely durable. It is made from High-Quality water and tear resistant Nylon fabric that can hold up heavy loads. Most importantly, its price doesn’t match up to what it offers!!!

Things We Liked

  • Comfortable. The straps are padded and adjustable to suit anyone. There are chest clips to help tighten the backpack more securely and comfortably.
  • Ultra-light to give you a great hiking experience.
  • It is water resistant (not waterproof) as it is made from parachute material.
  • Durable- the bottom of the backpack is double lined for extra durability

Things We Didn’t Like

  • The cushioning on the straps may not be as generous as it should be. Your shoulders might not endure a whole day of hiking with this especially when you are carrying heavy gear. Doesn’t seem suited for the heavy stuff.

2. Venture Pal Lightweight Hiking Backpack – organized

First of all this backpack is an import from China. They make it in five colors- black, blue, fuchsia, orange and royal blue. It is roomy enough (20 x 13 x 7.5).

There is one main zipped compartment that can handle 35L, two zipped front pockets and two side pockets for your water and juice bottles or umbrellas.

The pack is super affordable. This backpack is made from high-quality rip and water resistant material. It’s definitely a heavy duty backpack. The double layer bottom piece provides extra strength while the bag has heavy duty two way SBS metal zippers.

This backpack is foldable into its own zipped pocket for easier storage. While folded it is 9 x 8.5 x 2.2 inches. It does have compression straps and it’s water resistant. The design on this is just wow. Let’s see what it brings to the table other than mere aesthetics.

Comfort is key, and this backpack has breathable mesh shoulder straps with 3mm sponge padding. The straps and the included chest strap are adjustable for maximum comfort.

This bag is super light. No one wants to carry a weighty bag and with this you won’t have to.

Things We Liked

  • The manufacturers offer a promise-lifetime warranty on workmanship! Only a few companies can bet on their products like that.
  • Easy washing. Just throw it into the washing machine and/or dryer and voila, it’s clean. If it gets rained on don’t worry, It will be dry by morning.
  • Breathable. Why is this a great feature? When it’s hot there are fewer chances you will sweat much.

Things We Didn’t Like

  • The most nagging thing about the backpack is that the zipper catches if you don’t flip the fabric over it when unzipping. That will take some getting used to.
  • The padding is minimal which means it might not be ideal for laptops. But who needs a laptop when you are out in nature? (Although that and its lack of a flat bottom might make it poor at multitasking).

3. Teton Sports Scout Hiking Backpack – durable & comfortable

This awesome looking backpack comes in 3 colors- Coyote Tan, Hunter Green, and Mecca Orange. It is a 4.5-pound bag with a lot to offer. There are multiple pockets-side mesh pockets, front mesh pocket, bungee storage for things like a map, zippered pockets on each side, internal and external hood pockets.

I love the padded pocket inside the main compartment for a water bladder. The padded pocket has tube clips both left and right. Do note the water bladder is not part of the package. Some people use the compartment to pack a laptop.

There is a pocket where a rain cover is stored. They give you a limited lifetime warranty for defects in materials and workmanship. You should note this warranty doesn’t include wear and tear and will only cover the original owner.

It has a large capacity-55L or 3400 cubic inches to be exact; large enough to fit all your hiking necessities.

Comfort is assured. The manufacturers put in extra effort to give consumers extra comfort, and it shows. From the durable open-cell foam lumbar padding to the molded channels. It even has a unique locking mechanism on the lumber straps. The multi-position torso adjustment fits a broad range of body size. Furthermore, the back frame gives good support and makes it easy to carry.

Things We Liked

  • It has compression straps to help reduce the volume of the pack and minimize movement of items inside the pack.
  • This Teton model is one of the few hiking backpacks with loops to hook things such as keys, knives, etc enabling you to carry more.
  • There is a sleeping bag compartment. Few hiking backpacks have this.
  • It has the same features as backpacks costing twice.

Things We Didn’t Like

  • There are a few drawbacks: many customers wish there were more colors to choose from. The sleeping compartment is good but it small which means some sleeping bags won’t fit in there. Furthermore, the pack is smaller than many backpacks and yet it’s heavier (4.5).

4. Teton Sports Oasis Hydration Hiking Backpack – Good design

You could get this sturdy pack with a great deal of benefits. First of all it comes in 5 colors- black, green, orange, bright blue and bright green. It measures 18.5 x 10 x 7 inches with a capacity of 18L or 1100 cubic inches.

You get 4 zipped pockets- a hydration pouch, main pocket, upper front pocket and front bottom pocket. It also has 2 side mesh pockets (9″ deep) and one rain fly pocket. There is also a butterfly opening for jackets.

However for the water bladder, bite valve and drink tube, you only get a one-year limited warranty on material or workmanship. Warranty excludes wear and tear and results of misuse. Do also note that shipping costs may apply even though you get repairs and replacements for free.

There is a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship provided you are the original owner.

A 2L (70 ounces) hydration bladder. The bladder is BPA-free, FDA compliant food grade and has triple heat sealed edges. It even has a 2 inch opening for easy filling and cleaning, a Kink-free sip tube, cushioned bite valve and a twist lock to prevent leaks. Don’t worry; there is a Velcro strap to hold the bladder in place.

Things We Liked

  • A bungee cord system for bike helmet or similar gear.
  • Clips that can be used to tighten or loosen the pack as desired.
  • A built-in survival whistle in the chest strap.
  • It is ultra-light- just a mere 2 pounds!
  • Comfortable – It comes with adjustable straps. It also has a low-profile athletic cut with full adjustments fits all frames comfortably. The straps have generous cushioning –there is high density notched foam stabilizer and mesh covering. The back panel is not only cushioned but also breathable; say goodbye to sweaty backs. The chest strap has comfort taped edges and built in shock absorbers; a feature not common in many backpacks.
  • Durable – This pack is made to last several years. The material, the hidden teeth zipper, and water guard are some of the essential features that aid in longevity.

Things We Didn’t Like

  • It is a small backpack compared to most hiking backpacks. It may have all the necessary features, but the small size may be a deal breaker for those taking long trips. It won’t even fit a 15″ laptop, the 13″ barely fits. All in all, this might be the perfect size for short hiking trips.

As a hiker or someone who might be joining the club soon, you need to consider a hiking backpack. Your travel pack, school backpack or whatever other type of bag just won’t do. You can’t get out of buying a hiking backpack. Well…, you can, but you will have to pay a high price for it.

Here’s a list of some troubles you’ll have to deal with:

  • Back, Shoulder and Neck pains.
  • Health effects such as spinal misalignment.
  • Massive discomfort which will, in turn, lead to you not enjoying the hike.
  • A heavy bag that will slow down your hiking speed.
  • Tiring quickly characterized by shortness of breath.

Why You Should Buy a Hiking Backpack?

You can’t live without a hiking bag so you better start loving them. Okay, lemme not force them on you.

I have some solid points on why they are worth loving or liking, at the very least.

Essential Comfort During Hiking

Hiking is not that comfortable, especially for the unfit like me. But with the right backpack (a hiking backpack) there will be less discomfort to worry about.

They are made light to ease the load you are carrying. They also have hip belts and chest straps to keep the bag comfortably rested on your back. Furthermore, the generous padding on the straps and back is just perfect for hours of hiking.

Large Capacity for All Hiking Necessities

Hikes, even the simple day hikes, require one to carry a lot of stuff. From the sleeping bags, rock-climbing gear, to the safety must-haves such as first aid equipment.

So where will they all fit? That’s where a hiking backpack comes in.

Most ordinary bags do not have the capacity to fit all these in. It would be extremely bothersome to have to carry multiple bags. You need no extra luggage when hiking and yet you need all this gear particularly when rock climbing will be involved.

And guess what, hiking backpacks also usually multiple compartments unlike regular ones. This feature allows for easier organization and content access. For instance some have a sleeping bag compartment.

A bag may also be the right size but even then, ordinary bags and travel packs can’t handle that much weight for extended periods of time

More Durable than Casual Bags

Can regular packs withstand the natural elements and the unavoidable consequences of hiking? No way Jose!

Only hiking backpacks are made in a way that makes them as durable as need be. The materials used, the type of zippers, the stitching and even the design are all made to increase longevity.

Unique Features

Manufacturers of hiking backpacks know exactly what the bags are for. Therefore they include special helpful features.

For instance some come with whistles which are great safety measures when going on hikes. Others are waterproof, water resistant or have rain covers to take care of unexpected showers.

There are even those with water bladders to take care of constant thirst that comes with hiking.

How to Choose the Best Hiking Backpack

Now that you know a hiking backpack is mandatory, here’s a hiking backpack buying guide to help you shop for one. What needs to be considered?

  • Size/CapacityThe capacity will depend on a few things: How long is your trip? Where will you be hiking? What are you bringing along? I recommend 35-55L for overnighters, 45-75 for weekends and over 70L for more than a day’s hike.Pro Tip: Buy all the gear you need first before you purchase the backpack so as to estimate the size you need easily. Ladies, I know you are tempted to try and carry the whole house, but only the essentials please. The hair dryer and extra clothes don’t have to come with.
  • The FitThe backpack you choose must not be too low or too high. Contrary to popular belief, the perfect fit doesn’t depend on your height but your build and back length. Try the bag out first and if you are online shopping measure your back length and get a backpack that fits that length.
  • WeightIt’s only common sense that a hiking backpack be super light. Who needs to drag a weighty bag along when hiking for hours?
  • DurabilityFor a bag that will be up and about it needs to be extra durable. Examine the features, stitching and material used by the manufacturer. Most hiking backpacks are made from wear and tear resistant material. Check for features such as reinforced stitching, heavy-duty lockable zippers and double layered bottoms.
  • FrameSome backpacks have internal frames while others have external ones. Internal frame packs have support rods and frame built into the pack and hidden from view. External frame packs, on the other hand, have their rods separate from the actual pack. The latter are becoming less popular by the day. That is because internal frame packs look better and their rods won’t get caught on anything. They are also slimmer which adds to comfort.Furthermore, they tend to be lighter; their rods are made from carbon fiber or sturdy plastic which makes them easy on the back and more durable.

Other Features and Accessories

A great backpack is one with all the right features and accessories. What features and accessories make your life easier?

  • A backpack with external hooks and clips will allow you to attach more things.
  • Get one with multiple pockets or compartments. Being a big bag is not enough. Imagine having to unpack the whole bag just to look for your phone. Compartments make organization easier.
  • Chest and hip straps make a backpack comfier.
  • Compression straps help reduce the volume of the pack and minimize movement of items inside the pack.
  • A waterproof or water resistant backpack comes in handy. You never know when it will decide to pour. If it lacks this a rain cover will do.
  • A backpack with excellent ventilation is perfect for keeping away a sweaty back.
  • One with side load access is extra convenient. However, do note that such backpacks are becoming rarer by the day as the feature may inhibit proper weight distribution.
  • A hydration bladder is a great plus when it comes to hiking. It helps you stay hydrated.
  • How comfortable is it? For comfort you need a hiking backpack with wide padded shoulders and load bearing straps.
  • Reputable retailer  To be on the safe side choose a reputable retailer who stocks original and quality merchandise.
  • Budget – It all comes down to how much you have to spend. Stick to your price range. That said, getting something low quality just because its dirt cheap doesn’t make a good bargain.

The Verdict

Still wondering why you need to go through all the hassle to get a hiking backpack and yet you have a bag at home you could improvise? Let me drive the point home- hiking will be miserable without the right hiking backpack.

If you are still confused about the backpack to buy, get the Teton Sport Scout 3400 for its low-priced, high quality and a perfect size.

Or if you like a roomy backpack, Venture Pal Hiking Backpack is also your best option. Furthermore, it is offered in a range of colors.

Now that you know all you need to about hiking backpacks get to shopping.

Happy hiking!

The Best Tactical Bracelet

A tactical bracelet is your go to tool for surviving in the most extreme conditions. The best tactical bracelet not only contains a collection of handy tools, but also allows you to access them easily. It is compact, easy to snap on and off and stays put on your wrist or your bag.

If you are a child of the outdoors, then this subject should excite you. After all, much of the activities you jump into (pun intended) require a survival kit.

A tactical bracelet, sometimes called a survival/paracord bracelet, is part of this. As you will find out by reading on, a paracord bracelet can sometimes be the survival kit on its own, depending on what activity is at hand.

Which is the best tactical bracelet? To understand them, you have to first understand their design, working and why they are necessary.

ConstructionThey are woven out of 8-20 feet of parachute cord (paracord). Paracord is one of the strongest ropes available in the market, made out of nylon and structured to hold weights of up to 700 pounds. This is why it is used to suspend parachutes in the first place. It is also the first choice when it comes to making rope ladders. (Etrier).Usage

Tactical bracelets are especially popular with enthusiastic mountaineers and campers. Survival items that come in handy during emergencies like penknives, whistles and fire starters are stored inside these bracelets. Quite a number are designed using different colors of paracord to produce a stylish and hip yet highly functional accessory.

Even if you’re not one for roaming outside and getting involved in high risk activities, you never know when you might need a very long and strong cord. It doesn’t hurt then to buy yourself a small and compact bracelet and stash it somewhere in your car or the toolbox at home.

1.X-Plore Gear Tactical Bracelet – high quality, quick-release style

These come as a set of 2 of the same size, ideal for those going out to places with extreme conditions like deserts.

They come in different color combinations, in three different sizes-Regular, medium and kids size. The regular, at 9 inches, is wide enough to fit on pretty much any adult wrist-whether you are on the lithe or bigger side. It is however labelled as L for large.

The medium measures 8 inches and goes well on small wrists as well as some adult wrists. The kid size measures 7 inches and is labelled S on the bracelet itself.

If you have a 6” wrist for example, the best fit for you would be a kids size… the colors available are orange, pink, blue and a very appropriate jungle green.

The regular is 127 inches long when unraveled, the medium is 117 and the kids is 110 inches. All of them are still quite long and will serve equally well.

DesignThe design leaves lots of room to fit in pretty much everything you need- a whistle, a flint firestarter, a compass and even a knife. These 4, as mentioned, come with the bracelet. The whistle is really loud and can be heard over a long distance in case you get lost.

Since the paracord is made out plastic, it is waterproof and will keep your equipment dry even in a storm. It can be worn by both men and women comfortably.

PROS

  • Tight weaving secures components.
  • High quality military grade paracord.
  • Quick-release style knot.

CONS

  • Rigid buckles that feel too tight.

2.Atomic Bear Tactical Bracelet – one size fits all

Even its name inspires something- there’s a sense of toughness about it. This bracelet can support weights of up to 550 pounds. The cool and clever cobra style design holds the flint firestarter, whistle, knife and compass securely in place.

The cobra style knots ensure that the paracord is closely and tightly woven together to form a pouch like structure.

These are also sold as a pair on Amazon. It comes in two colors-plain black and a wonderful mix of black and a feisty vibrant orange.

It is very light, buckling it up is easy and it is durable, seeing as it is woven out of military grade paracord. You can use it as a fishing line, a sewing string or a foundation (tinder) for starting a fire when you can’t find dry plants, say during winter or when it rains.

It burns like plastic-meaning you’ll have a nice warm fire going, enough to dry up wet logs and keep the fire crackling all night. Perhaps it would be good to know that the blade and the firestarter are combined.

When unraveled, you get an impressive 12 feet of paracord. Here’s an idea- if you ever get lost, you could use the orange cord to create a path to where you are because of its visibility.

Or you can use it to mark your own path so you don’t get lost in the first place. Pull it apart to get a thin thread to make dental floss for those who are hygiene conscious.

PROS

  • One size fits all.
  • Very long-unravelling to up to 12 feet.

CONS

  • Long fastening system can prove to be clumsy.

3. A2S Survival Tactical Bracelet – easy to operate

This bracelet comes with three standard items- a compass, a fire starter and a whistle that produces up to 100db of sound. Also part of the kit is a steel scraper that doubles up as a knife with a very sharp edge that can slice through almost anything.

They are sold as a pair- a neat 2 pack of black and green- both blend in with the surrounding.

They are available in different sizes: 9 inches for the largest, but there are 8.5 inches and 7.5 inches appropriate for teenagers and kids respectively.

The paracord making up each bracelet measures 12 inches and is made up of fine seven inner strands.

The compass is conveniently embedded in the bracelet. In case it doesn’t work the first time, move it near a strong magnet to jumpstart the needle.

The slim buckle and quick release design ensures you can unravel or snap it open in under a minute. This bracelet is also waterproof and corrosion resistant. You can get a pair to wear on you and gift the other or keep it among your camping supplies.

PROS

  • Easy to operate.
  • Fire starter is easily removable for safety purposes.
  • Concealed knife.

CONS

  • The whistle is hard to maneuver.
  • The compass has tiny markings.

4. SharpSurvival Tactical Bracelet – perfect size

This is a reliable, very high quality paracord bracelet. It comes with a stainless steel knife, afire starter and compass.

The all-weather magnesium fire starter is easy to use, starts up quickly and is particularly handy on cold nights when there are no dry leaves.

Another thing to laud about this bracelet is that it is strongly woven to hold materials.

It comes in a free adjustable size that fits all and can be tightened or loosened appropriately. Even wrists of up to 11 inches can hold it comfortably. Those with wrists under 7” will find it a little too loose around the wrists. Or you can get the loops fixed so it fits snugly.

The cord is 4.2 meters- that’s a lot of cord that you can convert and put to good and clever use. However, because of its size, which can be a little bulky on some wrists, you can easily attach it to a backpack. Despite that, it is an ideal gift for a survival enthusiast and avid hiker/camper.

PROS

  • The firestarter is properly covered so it cannot spark accidentally.
  • Compact-it is just the perfect size to fit around most wrists.

CONS

  • No buckle.
  • Compass points to the magnetic north instead of true north.

5. Leatherman Tactical Bracelet – rust and corrosion resistant

This bracelet stands out right from it looks to how it functions. It is markedly different-of all our selections, it is the only one not made out of paracord. Instead, it is made out of stainless steel. It measures 8.56 inches in length from tip to tip.

It is rust resistant and is surprisingly comfortable around the wrist. The link heads are designed to work like cutters and screw heads. There is, however, only one cutter head.

If you want to make it smaller, you can remove one of the screw heads because there are others that work like it, although of different sizes.

There are 9 interchangeable links on the structure without modification. Each of them is about an inch wide. You can connect your Casio Edifice to the Treads using Treadlinks. Unfortunately, Apple Watches cannot be latched onto it.

It is TSA Approved and you can wear it on practically any airplane. They don’t pull hair-so don’t worry if you happen to have hairy wrists.

You can be sure that once you strap it on your wrist, you will stand out, especially if you’re into man jewelry. There is a sleek gun metal black coated variant. The coat lasts long thankfully, and will not be affected by minor scratches here and there.

PROS

  • Rust and corrosion resistant.
  • The size can be made smaller by taking out links, or wider by adding links.

CONS

  • The screws keep coming loose.
  • The oxygen wrench is not as much an everyday tool.

Why you should Love a Tactical Bracelet

For those who think a tactical bracelet is only appropriate for those involved in extreme activities-you couldn’t be more wrong. These bracelets’ functionality go beyond the lake, forests or deserts. They can work, ingeniously so, as replacement belts and shoe laces. Yes, their texture and strength qualify them in more ways than one

You can use a paracord to tie up items neatly, put up clothes line, craft up a splint, make a pet collar, a bow string, use the finer strands as a mending string or as tinder to start up a fire! You can also put up a shelter by anchoring the rope to the ground then putting up a sheet.

Beyond the practicality, you can wear one of these bracelets as a fashion statement where funky snazzy colors of paracord are used to weave up a bracelet. See? You literally have more than 10 reasons why you should love a survival bracelet.

Factors to Consider when Buying a Tactical Bracelet

  • The number of equipmentTypically, survival bracelets come with gadgets that can also be woven into their structure. The most basic of them should have at least 3 items- a whistle, a compass and a scraper/knife. These 3 items are the most commonly used when outdoor activities are involved. For those who want something extra, some survival bracelets come with extra equipment like a flint firestarter, a can opener, a screw driver, a fishing hook and handcuff key.
  • Stitching style – Cobra vs Easy-ReleaseThe equipment you keep in the bracelet should be easy to access. The fastest style to work with is the quick-release design whose knot can be undone in under a minute instead of 2-5 minute like the cobra design. The cobra design works for survival bracelets that need to hold more equipment. If you’re buying a tactical bracelet for a kid for example, it would make sense to get them one woven using the quick release style so they can get whatever they need while out at kids camp fast.
  • The size of your wristThese tactical bracelets thankfully come in different sizes for different wrists. Needless to say, a snug fit is preferable at all times. The problem with some bracelets is that once they come into contact with water, they either shrivel or become loose. That then becomes a problem.A tight-fitting bracelet affects your blood flow. Nobody should be told this-but measure your wrist before you go shopping and look at literal measures without relying on a seller’s labelling as kid/medium/regular size.
  • The nature of your activityParatroopers and military men might need more equipment on them than a boy scout going on a few days camp. The same applies to those going fishing or such other excursions for a few nights. The more the gadgets the bracelet can hold, the bigger it might be.The color of the bracelet counts in very few cases. One of these is when soldiers are the subject. Everything on them needs to be of muted color so they can camouflage easily. Emergency response course students will also find the equipment in tactical bracelets quite practical.
  • The type of paracordParacords come in different strengths and sizes. Being both the foundation and structure of the cord, this should be the most important thing you look at.The strongest cords can typically hold up to 550lb of weight and are graded as type III. However, there are others that support a maximum of 400lb, labelled type II. Type I paracord can only support up to 95lb, while type IV can support up to 750lbs of weight.Type IV is made up of 11 core strands, while Type III has between 7 to 9 strands in its structure, each with 3 yarns. Not all nylon ropes are paracord, because the latter is woven in a special way, with a particular number of strands interwoven to create a rigid structure. The result is a kind of rope that is more flexible than a standard nylon ripe and up to three times as strong.Commercial v military grade paracord.Military grade paracord is stronger and more than commercial paracord that can be used for everyday activities.

To Wrap Up

Imagine that you and a couple of your thrill seeking friends were out in the mountains after a long day of hiking. You decide to camp for the night. It fell on you to carry the ropes and tents, but you forgot to carry the ropes- that means you have to share a tent with two other people.

If you had a paracord bracelet with you, you would have had at least 8 feet of strong cord on your wrist. You would have made a makeshift shelter and not had to inconvenience the organized ones among you. Then you would have had a comfortable night.

If you’re going to be camping out at night, you will need to start a bonfire quickly. Perhaps you’re out on a short excursion or you’re on guard with the boy scouts and a group of cheeky monkeys overwhelm you. The whistle on your wrist will save you.

Assume you lose direction while hiking. A working compass will be your savior. Above all, you need one of these because you never know when you’ll need a knife to cut up luggage that was tied up too tight.

Aside from that, a tactical bracelet comes in handy in emergencies. Even just keeping one in your glove compartment is a good idea. If you’re going fishing, you can create a fishing line in minutes. The line can also form a shelter if you’re going camping and need to pitch up a tent with some sturdy military grade ropes that will withstand strong winds.

The best of the tactical bracelets reviewed above is no doubt the X-Plore Gear Emergency Paracord Bracelets. It is the ultimate paracord bracelet, optimized even for the wilderness. If you’re camping out in the winter, the all-weather firestarter will rescue you.

The weaving secures the 4 basic components inside tightly, and they can be accessed quickly because of the quick release knotting style. Above all, it is stylish and compact.

Get Yourself a Pair of the Brightest Headlamps

Picture this; you live in the countryside, and it is pitch dark as it is wont to be on most nights. You hear a ruffling in the woods, but it is too dark to see anything. The headlight at your backyard can only reach so far before the light dims. How do you tell whether those are raccoons trying your patience or it is a large animal seeking to establish its territory right in your backyard?

Now the dogs are barking furiously, and you wish you had the brightest headlamp you could get at the shops, just to establish the cause of the ruckus. Unfortunately, you don’t, but then your dogs are courageous enough to venture out with you.

In as much as the animal may eventually find a way to avoid bargaining with ferocious canines, you will need to look into that flashlight if you hope to have a pair of extra eyes at night.

How Do You Use A Headlamp?

Headlamps differ from flashlights in one major way; they are worn on the head so that you can have the use of both hands.

They are ideal in all situations that need light and mainly outdoor fun activities.

A few scenarios will require you to have a headlamp, but mostly if you are the outdoor kind. Trekking in the woods? You will certainly need some light if you hope to keep going after the sun has set. A headlamp is great because it is hands-free, it’s like having a flashlight for your head. Biking in the wild? Better bring a headlamp along for when the sun goes to sleep. These headlamps are also great for hunting and fishing out early in the mornings or late at night.

Backpackers are another lot that finds a lot of use for this gear (I should know this; I am one). Most of the times, you do not know what to expect in the place that you are bravely going, except what you read online. Having the best led headlamp saves you madness you were not ready for (like power just going off the moment you check into a remote hotel).

If you are the kind that loves to run in the dark, a bright shining headlamp lights the way without needing you to hold it. They types that we are about to review below are excellent at saving the battery while lighting your way as optimally as you would prefer. Imagine a headlamp that doesn’t need your manual operation to increase or decrease light? Yes, that is what we are about to look at.

1. Lighting EVER Headlamps – flexible, small, light

The first thing we noticed about this headlamp was the weight. It is feather-light at 113g.

It has a flexible band so that children and adults alike can wear it and be comfortable. The two adjustable buckles have a maximum circumference of 21.6in/55cm and a minimum of 13.7in/35cm.

You can stretch it further if you wish for it to cover a larger circumference. The band is comfortable and elastic so that you can wear it over hats and caps.

It looks good, which is a bonus seeing that aesthetics would not be a deal breaker. It is weatherproof, with an IP44 rating. With this rating, it can withstand splashing from all angles. It is not ideal for submersion, but then again that is not very important when you are only doing a hike or trek.

Lighting

The beam from this headlamp will shine as far as 20 feet on its brightest setting. The beam will be broad enough to cover your running and working space. It contains a red LED light for night running and visibility when on the road with other users. The two red LEDs flash all through as long as you are using the headlamp. However, you can intentionally turn them off, especially if you are only reading and not running out in the dark.

The 18 white LED lights make this headlamp the ideal camp gear. It illuminates far and wide, its splash of white being visible from a distance.

One of the most impressive things about the lighting is that you can adjust it to your liking. You can reduce the beam and spotlight from the settings to fit what you are doing. Thanks to this ability, you can use it for reading on your Kindle as well as outdoors for running and adventures.

Functionality. It is ideal for

  • Walking or running in darkness.
  • Riding a bike in the dark.
  • Reading a book or cooking in the dark.
  • Working on your car.

PROS

  • The band is flexible and padded for comfort.
  • The light settings give you the power to decide how much brilliance you want.
  • It is small and light.
  • Affordable.

CONS

  • 20 feet is only so far.
  • The red LED is only a blinker. It would be better if it stayed on without blinking

2. GRDE Headlamps – bright, light, 3 modes

This headlamp is a looker with a band that looks as sturdy as it is. It is black and black, with a padded interior that makes it comfortable for extended wear. You can wear it on your head, waist, or even place it on the table.

It weighs 4.8 ounces, which makes it ideal for running, biking, and other activities that do not need an extra load. This headlamp uses rechargeable batteries, 3.7V 18650, which will run according to your utilization.

There is nothing on the lighting to warn you that the battery is low, and so you may want to ensure that you charge it whenever the light dims. The batteries need up to 6 hours to charge, during which time it would be safe to leave the headlamp undisturbed.

The package comes with two batteries, so all you will need to do is charge it and be set.

  • WaterproofIt has an IPX 4 rating that prevents it from crashing when splashed from all angles. This headlamp will survive torrential rains when you get unlucky with nature.
  • LightingThe GRDE Zoomable has three light modes. These three modes include, high output, low output, and strobe. They are ideal for reading, riding, and even cooking in the campsite. You can adjust the light to suit your needs at theOne is the red LED that blinks to keep you visible from a distance. The second is the white LED that keeps it brighter than all other flashlights in its price category. 1,800 lumens is the distance that you cover with this headlamp. Only a handful on the market can measure up to this distance.
  • FunctionalityThis headlamp not only does well out there on the campsite and trails, but it also works well indoors. You can adjust the light to read, cook work under the sink or on your car, and pretty much any space that needs lighting.

PROS

  • Affordable, bright and light
  • Three modes for light settings.
  • It has a lifespan of 100,000 hours

CONS

  • The battery is rechargeable, and so you have to carry a solar charger when taking it away for days.
  • You cannot have it on pulsating mode and high at the same time.

3. Shining Buddy Headlamps – lightest, brightest, 5 modes

This headlamp catches your attention immediately for one thing; being one of the lightest at only 2.6oz. That is super impressive for a lamp with its capability. Over a thousand reviewers share these sentiments.

The band is adjustable to fit on adults and children alike. It has padding for comfortable wearing, and it also lasts long, thanks to its elastic make.

It does not share the bright colors of most headlamps, but that is not an important aspect, now, is it? What is has that makes up for anything it could lack is weatherproof abilities and shock resistance. Yes, a fall will not harm this baby; neither will heavy rains hitting it from all directions.

  • LightingSince we buy these flashlights for the light, let us look into it. This headlight has five modes: High beam, Low beam, White Strobe, Red Beam, and Red Flashing. The flashing light keeps you visible during rides or other nightly adventures, but it does not stay on its own. You would have one of the other beams on too for enough light. It has two separate switches for each of the colors; the white LED as well as the red LED.How far can it shine? Up to 160 lumens. This is enough light for night walking, riding or running. It will also come in handy when working in the garage. It comes with 3 AAA Duracell batteries, saving you the initial cost. The batteries are rechargeable and will last for more than 12 hours with continuous use. Intermittent use will stretch its battery life. The batteries will need about 6 hours of charging.
  • FunctionalityPerfect for reading in the dark, riding the bike at night, working on your car, and lighting up the tent.

PROS

  • The lightest and brightest.
  • Affordable
  • Five light settings
  • Can be adjusted to 45 degrees.

CONS

  • Rechargeable batteries, and so you have to keep charging it
  • It has no reflector on the back for rear visibility.

4. InnoGear Grey Headlamps – rotatable, waterproof, heatproof

InnoGear is known for innovative items, and this headlamp is no different. The package comes with two 3.7v, 4400mAh batteries, and so you are saved the initial cost. These batteries will last you a hood while depending on usage.

Rechargeable batteries are both convenient and inconvenient for two reasons. Convenient because it saves you the constant costs, but inconvenient for the fact that you would have to carry a solar charger or power bank to keep it functional when leaving home for long.

It also comes with both a cable charger and a wall charger to keep it fully functional at all times. When fully charged, you can count on it to work continuously for a maximum 4 hours. Oh, and should your phone ran out of charge, the USB port on the light will help you charge it.

InnoGear headlight has four working modes; high, low, mid, and flashing. Here is where you adjust your lighting to suit your needs.

How can you use this headlight? In several ways including outdoor runs and walks, reading, working under the sink and in the garage, camping, and fishing.

PROS

  • Rotatable to 90 degrees.
  • Waterproof and heatproof
  • Lightweight
  • Bright (5000 lumens)

CONS

  • You have to keep charging it
  • Battery doesn’t last long if used continuously

5. InnoGear Orange Headlamps – sturdy headband, bright

For this headlight, InnoGear includes a wall charger for those outdoor expeditions such as fishing. It has an output of up to 5000 lumen, which is quite bright for the outdoors as well as indoor activities.

The two rechargeable batteries save you cost and serve you for a long time before requiring replacement. The company says that this headli9ght has a lifespan of 100,000 hours.

If you let the lamp light on continuously, the batteries will last a maximum 4 hours before dimming. They will need 6 hours to charge fully. Intermittent lighting will certainly keep then burning for longer.

It has four working modes: high, middle, low, and flashing. With a brilliance of 5,000 lumens, you can use this flashlight for fishing, riding the bike, running and walking in the dark, and working at home. The settings will allow you to adjust both the beam and spotlight to suit your needs at that time.

Is it flexible? Yes, at 90 degrees up and down. When you choose your angle, it stays put even with constant movement. The band is especially sturdy to hold ideally to the head. We like the padding that helps it sit comfortably on the head without hurting you.

PROS

  • Sturdy headband
  • Affordable
  • Bright

CONS

  • Not the lightest at 300g
  • The battery lasts 4 hours maximum

What to Consider Before Buying a Headlamp

  • WeightYou will wear the headlamp on your head, and so the first thing you would want to ensure is that your flashlight is light enough prevent you from tiring. You can imagine negotiating a trail in the dark with a heavy bag on your back and a headlight that adds to your baggage. In our experience, we find the ideal weight to be 300 grams. Anything in this range or lighter will work excellently.
  • WaterproofNature is unpredictable. As much as you may not be trekking under water, you would get caught in the rain. It is hard to imagine anything worse than being out in the dark, in heavy rains, and no flashlight. The ideal flashlight for trekking or hiking or any outdoor activity withstand rain and still function properly.A headlight with an IPX 4 rating will withstand water flashing from all directions. If you take it even higher to IPX 7, you get a power headlight that can withstand water immersion for up to 30 minutes in 30 meters of water. A flashlight with this rating will even survive a washing machine (not that you need to take it that far).
  • Battery TypeThere are two types of headlamps; those that use removable batteries, and the rechargeable kind. The good thing about those with removable batteries is that you can always bring a bunch to keep them lit. Rechargeable batteries need a solar charger or a power bank, and so you will have extra weight on you.If you prefer the rechargeable one, you may want to ensure that you can power it with ordinary batteries for when you need that. You can always buy a couple of AAAs or AAs on the road when you run out.
  • LightingThis has everything to do with the kind of light that your headlamp illuminates. Floodlight will cast a wide beam around you, without necessarily lighting very far. With this kind of setting, you can cook a meal; inspect a wound, and other activities that require proximity.A spotlight is ideal for finding and marking trails. An ideal flashlight will light up to 100 meters, which is equal to a standard football field, but some ninjas will take it a notch higher; 150 meters. With this kind, the possibilities are endless.A red-light, which we found in the various flashlights in this review, is quite remarkable. Why is that? If an accident happens and you need rescuing, it flashes and makes you visible from a distance. Also, it extends battery life when you do not need too much light. You can make it your default lighting and fare on with your trek.

Which One Do We Like Best?

We like them all equally, but we feel strongly about LE Headlamp LED. Why? Because of the four modes, the ability to set the light to your liking, and the adjustable band are great qualities in a headlamp.

That, and the fact that, in its category, it shines the brightest. The price is also unbeatable.

[tcb-script async=”” src=”//z-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/onejs?MarketPlace=US&adInstanceId=391d0b1f-1e1c-480e-977a-59654f5d1db8″][/tcb-script]

1. Zeny Party Tent – most durable, lightweight and reasonably priced outdoor party tent

This tent measures 10*30, and it is predominantly white. It is easy to set-up- takes two people about 30 minutes, even with its size. It takes even less time to bring down. From outside, you would be forgiven to think that this tent was quite small, but a look inside would surprise you.

The poles on this tent are quite strong. They are certainly not as strong as those of a tent several times its cost, but they can endure a mild wind. They are made of steel, and they come with stakes and ropes for added stability. They are coated with corrosion resistant powder for longevity.

The cover is made of durable waterproof polyethylene, which resists tear. It is also not affected by the sun’s rays as most tent materials do. Out of the box, the material is pure white, and the amazing thing is that this color endures al through. As long as you clean it well whenever it catches dirt, this material will retain its color for its entire useful life.

The all white walls are attached with Velcro fasteners. The beauty on this tent is that you can remove these walls to let in some air. The windows are also a delight because they allow you to still be part of the outside world. Besides, they bring in a little breeze if it gets stiff inside the tent.

This tent is quite vast and perfect for barbecues and any other outdoor parties that call for protection from the elements. It folds easily and only weighs 30ls, so storage and transportation are quite easy.

PROS

  • Light (weighs 30lbs) and can be stored easily.
  • Reasonably priced.
  • Can accommodate a large section of people.
  • Durable, tear-resistant material.
  • Easy to set up.

CONS

  • Even though the poles are made of steel, they are quite weak and can hardly withstand mild wind.
  • The material is thin and can be blown away by strong wind.

2. Amazon Basics Party Tent – easy to set up and take down

It is small and compact, ideal for a small, intimate gathering that wants to enjoy the outdoors without all the exposure to the elements.

The framing is excellent, with sturdy poles that make up the top and sides for a comfortable, yet durable setting

This tent can withstand mild and strong winds, thanks to its on construction. Even though it only stands at 10*10, it has the capacity to accommodate more people than you would think. The top canopy, which is 96 square feet in size, shields you from the sun to make this tent ideal for corporate events, fairs, and expos.

The canvas is the real deal. It comes in different bright colors to light up the mood in whatever kind of party you decide to have. The canopy is a mixture of 45% polyester 45% steel, and 10% plastic to protect you from the sun’s UV rays. It is waterproof, and the canopy is pointed to prevent water from pooling at the center.

This tent is wall-less, which could pose a problem when you want to have an outdoor party in unpredictable weather. It is safe t have it out in summer during the days when the weather is enjoyable. However, you can always buy material for the outer part and transform this tent into an evening affair.

It is easy to set up, literally taking seconds to it up. It does not require any tools since the metal bars already have their stable stands. The powder coated steel frame is corrosion-resistant, and so it endures for long, even in a humid atmosphere. The adjustable legs promote the structure’s stability even on unstable ground.

PROS

  • Easy to set up and take down. One person can do it alone.
  • Adjustable legs make it more stable.
  • Great price.
  • Durable material.
  • Quite spacious.
  • Comes with a bag for transportation.

CONS

  • It has no walls, so not ideal for windy or rainy days.
  • Not stable enough to withstand strong winds.

3. FDW Party Tent – high quality, waterproof, spacious party tent

It measures 10*30 and has five walls, all equipped with large windows. One side of the tent is left open to let in air and sunlight.

The windows are large and luminous to let you feel as though you are part of the great outdoors. The tent has a lot of capacity to host a large-sized gathering. It is white in color, with canvas material that never fades. Depending on how you care for the outer material, this tent will remain the same color for as long as you have it. It comes with extra ropes and stakes to improve stability.

The top outer material is 100g per square meter Polyethylene, which is water resistant and protects you from the harshness of the sun. The top is a canopy to prevent rainwater from pooling.

The sidebars are sturdy enough to withstand up to 5MP wind but not anymore. It can also stand mild rains, but not too heavy. Basically, this tent is designed for regular use in a calm or mildly windy atmosphere.

Even though it does not look it from the outside, this party tent can hold up to 50 people. It is ideal for weddings, barbecues, and any other event that could use the open-air plan. With a tear-resistant outer material fortified for UV protection and corrosion-free metal poles, this tent is highly commendable. It is also quite cheap, given that it can last for years with good care.

The tent is easy to erect, thanks to its solid legs. Once you are done with your party, you can easily fold the outer cover into a sizable ball, as well as the steel frames. They make for easy storage and light transportation, seeing that the whole combination weighs 37 pounds.

PROS

  • Lightweight and foldable.
  • Easy to erect.
  • Waterproof material.
  • Great price.

CONS

  • Not ideal for windy days.

4. Exacme Party Tent – most cheaply priced party tent with durable material

Measuring 10*30, this tent can accommodate up to 30 people in the seemingly small space. It has eight removable walls, each with three large windows. The top is a canopy to allow water to slide down in the event of rain. If it gets stuffy in there, you can remove some walls to let in air, or even open the tent up for a more inclusive feeling. It is ideal for all sorts of events, from wedding receptions to sports events, and open craft fairs where you can remove a few walls to allow in a larger crowd.

High-class polyethylene makes up the outer cover, while steel poles hold it together. The steep poles have been fortified with corrosion resistant material. To enhance the stability of the PE joints, this tent comes with poles and ropes, which keep it on the ground even when it is slightly windy.

The top material protects from UV rays, and so it is ideal for the hot summer. The large transparent windows allow you to monitor the outdoors and you can even open them to let in air. The legs are stable enough to be placed on gravel on any other flat surface.

As much as it is strong, this tent cannot stand wind beyond 5MPH. It would be ideal to set it out in a place where the force of wind is broken before it gets to it, or in a relatively calm area. Heavy rains will bring it down too, so it would be safer not to set it up under such weather conditions.

It is easy to erect, but you cannot do it alone. It is equally easy to bring down. The price is certainly the winner for this product.

PROS

  • Cheaply priced.
  • Can accommodate up to 50.
  • Durable material.

CONS

  • The steel bars cannot hold it against strong wind.

5. Palm Springs Party Tent – durable, foldable, easy to store & transportation

This tent, which measures 10*30 feet, is surprisingly large. You would underestimate it, looking at it from a distance, but it can accommodate up to 50 people.

Since the ten is quite large, it needs props to keep it in place, hence the ropes and stakes that come with it. The all-white exterior is durable as it is made of waterproof polyethylene, and it can protect you from 90% of the sun’s harmful UV rays on a hot summer day.

The white outer cover does not lose its luster, as long as you take great care of it. The metal rods that keep this tent up are made of steel, complete with rust-resistant material.

For this reason, they can withstand humid weather.

This tent has eight walls, all which you can remove to change the mood, to allow in more light air. Each wall has three large windows to let in air. It makes you feel as though you are in a house, with the added benefits of gazing at the outdoors.

The tent is easy to set up. It would take four people with reasonable experience about 7 minutes to get it up. Two can also do it, but it would take them longer. It is equally easy to bring down, thanks to the light but sturdy steel frames. The joints are put together in excellent workmanship to keep the canopy in its place.

This Palm Springs tent is not made for windy locations. It can withstand a bit of wind, but a strong gust will send the frames scattering. To play on the safe side, it is best set up in relatively temperate areas, with little or no rain.

PROS

  • Cheap.
  • Durable material with UV protection.
  • Foldable and easy to store, also light for easy transportation

Things we didn’t like

  • Cannot stand high winds or torrential rains.

Last year at my sister’s wedding, we thought it was going to be sunny. Why? Because the weatherman had predicted a week of blissfully blue skies, and a continued calm that had dominated the week. We had no worry, whatsoever, and proceeded to have our event under the clear blue skies.

Just as the event was at its peak, the heavens decided to grace us with their present. Rain poured; not too much to dampen our spirits, but enough to get us all wet before we could take shelter. What if we had our party tents out, something we learned could protect you from torrential rains? We went home, wet and cold, bride and groom included, but in high spirits nonetheless. At least we each got the chance to bring out the inner child in us.

What are Party Tents?

Alright, it is enough of the chitchat. Party tents are large and made of canvas, and they are excellent at shielding you from the elements. They are quite versatile for several reasons and especially the fact that you can get them in different shapes. You can choose one that goes with your style, your event, and the number of people you plan to host.

Because they come in different shapes and sizes, a seemingly large one can easily fit a small space. You can get large ones that accommodate all inhabitants of a small town-over 600 people, to a small one holding up to 18 people. There is one for every occasion.

Why You Should Have A Party Tent At Your Event

Well, there are several reasons;

  • Safety From The elementsAs you read from my experience, a party tent is an ideal way to have a party without worrying about Mother Nature. If you want to have your event on a summer afternoon without exposing your guests to the sun for too long, this tent is the ideal way to go about it.One more thing that most people overlook: mosquitoes. You know they love hanging around and unleashing their blood-sucking nature on innocent bystanders. While a tent will not repel them, it will allow you to spray a barrier of repellant around it that will keep them away without affecting your guests.
  • DécorA tent changes the look of things. If your party lasts until later in the night, you can have beautiful lights adorn it, and the photography will have you thinking that you were partying in a cruise ship. Now, you would e led to believe that a party tent is just bland canvas with no much to offer. How wrong! First, tents come in different colors, not just the customary white. Second, you can decorate the inside of it however you want. They are extremely versatile. Matter of fact, a well-erected tent will not see like one at all.
  • Easy to erectBefore we even say this, we acknowledge that tents allow you to accommodate lots of people within a small area. Additionally, they come in different shapes and sizes from the relatively easy to erect pop-up party tents, to the more expensive and quite sturdy frame party tents. The latter are durable and take a bit of effort to assemble, but they also remain stable under whatever weather conditions. They are waterproof too, and so you will have a tent to last you a long time.Besides being an excellent way to host a crowd of your choice, these tents are easily foldable. They have a small footprint, and so you will not have to worry about how to store them. Depending on how you maintain it, you can have yours for a long time.

Factors To Consider When Buying A Party Tent

  • ConstructionDepending on the area that you plan to erect your tent, you may want one with stellar construction. Windy places will require a tent with robust poles, those that can withstand it. A tent with sturdy poles made of steel, and an overall stellar construction will certainly cost more than its weaker counterparts, but it will serve its purpose now and in a long time to come. Actually, you can leave it out without worrying about it giving in to the elements.
  • No of peopleThe size of your gathering will dictate the size of the tent. If you foresee hosting large groups consistently, you may want to invest in a large tent that will come in handy always (some of these will last for years). Even if you only need it for that one-time event but feel that you could rent it out, you could go ahead and buy it if you get a good deal.
  • Set-upYou do not want a tent that takes six hours to set up, however strong it is. If it takes that long, it is going to take just as much time to bring down when the time comes.
  • The MaterialYou want to carefully examine the material used to make that tent. Tentmakers use these types of material the most: canvas, vinyl, acrylic, polyester, rayon, nylon, and polyvinyl composites. The determinants of your choice of material should be humidity in your area, exposure to UV rays, and even colder climates. In most cases, the material of your tent can be fortified to meet your climatic challenges. However, the most important aspect here is tear-resistance. It should also be waterproof.
  • Your BudgetYour money will determine the type of tent you will choose. The larger the tent, the more it will cost. Additionally, party tents with sturdy steel poles will go for much higher, regardless of the size. In the end, the higher the quality, the better and more durable the tent will be. You are better off renting one for your special events than buying one that will not stand the elements, or whose material will tear up in the slightest tension.
  • Your Preferred StyleThere are several types of party tents, all depending on your personal style, the type and size of your party, and space. Canopy tents, pop-ups, frame tents, tension tents, and pole tents. Canopies and frame tents can hold large gatherings as well as small ones, depending on the size of the tent. The rest are mostly ideal for smaller gatherings.

Conclusion

Whether you are hosting a formal party for the office or a wedding, party tents are the ideal way to accommodate a large gathering outdoors. They come in various shapes and sizes to enable you to choose the right one for the event. Canopy tents can host a party of four, or even more depending on what you have in mind.

The decision to buy or to rent is entirely personal. However, if you intend to have people over often, and the weather allows you to host them outside, then buying on would save you a good deal of money.

Tents are versatile. You may like them for their ability to protect you from the elements, but they add something more to your evening dinner parties. In a calm evening, a canopy tent would create the perfect mood for a romantic dinner. Complete with the flowing air and lights.

We Have a Winner! We love all the tents reviewed here, and we are utterly shocked by the low prices. However, we like Zeny 10 X 30 Outdoor Wedding Party Tent for its size, durable material, and the ease of erecting. It was not lost on us that this tent is super light and easy to fold. Following closely is Amazon Basics Pop-Up Canopy Tent for its sturdiness, size, and bright colors.

What are knee pads?

Knee pads are apparels specifically designed to offer support and protection to the knees. They guard your knees if you suffer a blow or walloped the ground when cycling, racing, playing football, or when skating.

Prevention is better than cure, and knee pads are your first line of safety when exposing your body to possible risks. Pro knee pads absorb the stress and the pressure that would otherwise be felt by your knees directly.

Which are the benefits of wearing knee pads?

  • Protection from injuriesAs mentioned above, the main reason is for prevention of injuries. The other reasons include prevention of excess strain on the knee when working – construction workers and gardeners spend some time on their knees and to prevent that pressure that could cause damage, knee pads are essential.
  • Pain managementSome medical conditions call for the use of knee pads for pain management. Since the knee pads and even sleeve have compression effects, they alleviate pain. These conditions include arthritis, cartilage tear, ligament injuries, Baker’s cyst, Patellar tendonitis, chondromalacia patellae, kneecap dislocation, bursitis, osteochondritis, gout, plica syndrome, and Osgood-Schlatter disease.

Why should you love a knee pad?

We believe we have similar reasons for loving knee pads. These reasons include:

  • They are available in different designsThe beauty of buying a knee pad is that they come in different designs and colors. This means that you get to pick one that represents your personality and style – as long as the knee pad has all the amenities necessary for it to work.
  • Peace of mindIf you have been gearing up for a mountain ride or cycling through a rough terrain or even a skating rink, then you know that besides the thrill of taking part in the activity, there is a fear that you’ll get hurt. However, this isn’t the case when you have pro knee pads and even elbow pads. Just having the protective apparel makes you comfortable even if you won’t let fear show before your friends.
  • They have gotten us through freak accidentsIf you have ever been in an accident that caused minor knee injuries, then you can only imagine how worse things would have been without the knee pad. By looking the dent on the knee pad protective shell, you can tell that the knee pads saved your feet and well, why wouldn’t you love that pair of knee pads as well as elbow braces?
  • They facilitate healingMost of us have been in accidents that resulted from the lack of or the use of poor quality knee pads. Tell you what got us out through then pain, knee pads, and knee sleeves. Their compression and breathability increase blood flow to the knees reducing pain.
  • They improve performanceKnowing that you are safe increases your participation because, well, you are at peace and ease.

You get the best by considering the following factors

You could be thinking ‘to love the knee pads this much, there must have been features present in the knee pads making them that useful.’ Well, you are right. You cannot buy any knee pad randomly and expect such benefits. Below should be considered when buying your best pro knee pad.

The type of knee pad

The three top types of pro knee pads include:

  • The hard cap knee padsThese are ideal for sliding and swiveling. They are also perfect for skating and racing or cycling. Ensure that they have an inner lining with shock absorbing features. These knee pads also offer the highest level of protection.
  • Flat-cap capsExcellent fit for kneeling.
  • Curved soft capsThese knee pads allow motion in different directions and provide a good grip when taking part in flooring activities. They are also ideal for activities that need you to remain stationary.

Pro tip: The type of knee pad depends on the intended use. Pro knee pads for snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, or Motocross have to be durable and comfortable because of the high risk these sports pose. Knee pads for gymnastics, dancing, and acrobatics need to be durable and have flexible cushioning.

The fit

You will go through various pro knee pad reviews, and you may even buy some pads in the wrong size but, the right knee pad always fits right in, naturally.

Here is our first expert tip: You know that you have the right knee pads when you wear them for the first time and they feel that the designer had you in mind during the construction process. Whether you take the hard-core knee pad of the knee sleeve; a right knee pad doesn’t require a break in time.

The padding material

The padding is that makes up a knee pad – the name says it all. The reason for this is the fact that the padding or cushioning determines the protection offered to the kneecap or elbows when using elbow braces.

The main materials that make up the interior part of pro knee pads include gel, neoprene foam, polyethylene foam, EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) foam, polyvinyl chloride foam, nylon foam, polyurethane foam, extruded polystyrene foam, plastic, rubber, and carbon fiber. The inner shell has to be elastic and soft.

For the exterior surface, you will come across two main types of padding – cap-type or the shell. For the outer padding, you will come across materials such as rubber, ABS plastic, gel or carbon fiber. You will also find bubble-type cushioning and honeycomb pads which are practical for use in high-exposure areas.

Pro tip: Ensure that the internal and the outer material is comfortable and sturdy.

Adjustable straps

The best knee pads are the ones that fit snugly and can be adjusted or re-adjusted depending on how you like it to fit. For adjustment purposes, the market has knee pads with adjustable straps, fasteners, buckles, and Velcro.

However, despite the availability of all these styles, we believe that pro knee pads must have adjustable straps at the top and the lower part of the knee pad. This positioning helps in keeping the pad in place. It is also easy to put on and remove knee as well as elbow pads with adjustable straps.

Velcro strapping is low on our list because it malfunctions after a few uses. At the same time, it comes off when worn and you have to keep checking to ensure that it stays in place.

If buying knee pad sleeves, you will notice that most of the sleeves lack straps, but they have anti-slip construction designs.

Expert tip: the adjustable straps should be elastic and not plastic. To keep the pad in place, take advantage of the lower strap and tie it snug. This lower strap is the one responsible for holding the pad. The upper straps do not have to be very tight.

Durability

Durability and strength determine how long the knee pads last after use and after they are beaten down. The best knee straps offer excellent support and protection even after you clean then multiple times.

Pro tip: the most durable knee pads have sturdy strapping and not buckles, fasteners, or Velcro.

Comfort

Whether you get hard-cap, soft-cap, or flat curve cap knee pads, the pads should be comfortable. The comfort comes from the inner lining and cushioning. The inner lining must be breathable to keep you cool and dry through the long sporting stretches. At the same time, the straps and the outer shell should not dig into your skin.

Besides protection, we know that the knee pad sleeves are great for pain reduction. This means that the pads should exert too much pressure. It also means that you should get the right size for the ideal level of compression.

Pro tip: avoid materials that cause irritation either because you have sensitive skin or because the sleeve is too tight. Keep in mind the breathability and the intended use as well.

Versatility

Times are hard, and you cannot buy a knee pad for every activity you wish to take part in. We advise you to buy pro knee pads which you can use for more than one use. Pads suited for work and play are preferable. If getting a knee pad for medical reasons, we recommend that you get a knee sleeve because it offers adequate compression.

Pro Tip: if you are unsure of the possible alternate use of a knee pad, look at user reviews from the site you are buying from, say Amazon, to know of other uses of the knee pads.

Price

Set a budget and buy a knee pad you can afford. Most kneepads range from $10 to $60, but you should always stick to your budget. However, this doesn’t mean that you should compromise on quality. Use the features of the knee pad to determine if it worth the price. Some knee pads come in sets of both elbow and knee pads. These packs are relatively cheap compared to buying individual pairs.

Expert advice: there is no correlation between the price and the quality. Some expensive knee pads lack in functionality and some affordable options offer exceptional service.

And, there you have it – all the factors that we consider and which you also should in determining the best pro knee pads. All these features lead to higher performance.

Conclusion

The best pro knee pads have excellent features that offer superior protection, support, and pain relief. The material used in construction determines the comfort in relation to contouring, breathability, heat retention, and fit.

If you order a knee pad that offers comfort on these levels, then you will be safe if you are into sporting or in construction. If getting a pair for your children, you will have peace of mind knowing that their knees and elbows have trustworthy protection. If trying to manage arthritic pain, a good knee pad sleeve will offer the right amount of compression for pain relief. The padding prevents secondary injuries.

For total protection, you will need protective gear for the head, fingers, and feet. You or your loved one must don protection gear from head to toes especially when taking part in risky activities.

That said, here is the pro knee pad we highly recommend – the K-P Industries Pro Ultra Flex III Knee Pads because of its high performance.

It is perfect for the rough and risky rides thanks to the hard plastic outer shell that offers excellent protection if you take a blow. The non-marking grip-strip and the speed clips make it easy to wear and remove these pro knee pads.

For comfort, it has a ½ inch closed cell inner foam pad. It won’t slip off thanks to the soft elastic woven straps with sewn ends for reinforcement. The hinges make it easy to move naturally in them. These Pro knee pads are our winners.

5 of the Best AAA Flashlights on the Market

Flashlights, not to be confused with headlights, are handheld portable electric lights that you can use to navigate in the dark. They are handy for those living off the grid, campers, and generally outdoorsy people who get caught up in the dark.

You may be tempted to look down on a flashlight if you have never used one, but the best AAA flashlight will illuminate so far that you will think power is on for second. So, what is an AAA flashlight? It is a much smaller flashlight that utilizes AAA batteries. These batteries are easy to find, and the flashlight is quite compact for easy porting.

Why should you care for AAA flashlights, anyway? Well, we have t say from the get-go that they are quite compact and their beam is not the broadest, so they will not be the best option for camping. However, a portable flashlight comes handy when you walk the dog or take evening walks, o even just want to use it at home. It comes with a pocket clip to secure it to your clothes and a keychain for when you just want to secure it to your backpack.

Most keychain flashlights and especially the ones we are about to review are made of aircraft grade aluminum which is almost indestructible. They are also flat-based so that you can place them on a flat surface and work independently. Maybe the most pleasing feature of these little torches is the price. Each of the ones we will review costs less than $20. A steal, no?

We mentioned it has four modes, which are; the Firefly mode at 0.5 lumens with a 115-hour runtime, the low mode at 12 lumens doing a 6-hour run, the high mode at 162 lumens for 30 minutes, and Strobe mode at 162 lumens that run for an hour. It comes in black and silver, and you can find a nice case to carry it in online. It has a tail switch that you can turn on even when the flashlight is still in your pocket.

PROS

  • Extremely bright for its size.

  • Has multiple modes and a pocket clip.

CONS

The black flashlight has a 44m beam distance, while the silver and copper options can light up to 48m. The various flashlights vary in price, with silver and copper being the most expensive. All color options have an output of 90 lumens except the silver and copper with 120 lumens.

Its battery life is 60 minutes on high while the other three modes will last much longer. It uses a single AAA battery at a go, and you can have it on for about 5 hours on low. The beam is bright but not as broad as you would expect from a larger flashlight.

This one is exciting: the Olight 90 flashlight is waterproof, and so you can take it for your nightly swims or expedition in the lake. The outer part is made of aircraft grade aluminum, and so it can take a beating.

How did we pick the Best AAA Flashlight?

Okay, we have to admit that this was no joke. We had several brands to review, and so we dedicated more than 30 hours to the test. We started with the brands that we thought were hyped online before moving on to the less known brands. Interestingly, the overly hyped products did not make the top-ten on our list.

So, how did we do this?

Our main targets were runtime, variety of modes, brightness, size and shape, and portability. We needed a flashlight that would last for at least 4 hours on medium mode. We were looking at the value in terms of how much you would spend on batteries if you were to use this flashlight at home to fix a blocked sink.

Brightness is a natural deal breaker, and so it was high on our radar. Our target was between 90 and 150 lumens (for the price range). We were also concerned with the distance covered in meters, with the objective being 40 meters and above. Again, we wanted to get the best on a budget, and maybe we should mention here that we were not willing to spend more than $18 per flashlight.

Type of battery used: we preferred flashlights that used one battery at a time, but we were also willing to accept two if it would mean more power. We chose AAA batteries because they are easily available. Did they have to be disposable? Not really but you will hardly get rechargeable batteries of the size we wanted. Besides, these torches are designed for mobile people, and so disposable batteries were the best option.

Modes: we wanted you to have options, hence the multiple modes. We were keen on getting flashlights with low, high and strobe modes. One of our reviewed products only has one mode, but that’s because it was too high-quality to leave out. We overlooked that con.

Size and portability: keychain torches are known for their portability, and so we stuck to that. We were also keen on the material to make your purchase worth it. We like our flashlights waterproof too for those underwater expeditions.

That’s about it! We rounded five products that we are going to share with you in this review, keep reading.

Factors to Consider when Buying AAA Flashlight

Size and Shape

Most AAA flashlights are small and shaped like pens, hence the name Penlight, and so they are quite concealable. You can wear yours around the neck or just place it in the pocket. You want one with a pocket clip so that you can easily tuck it into your pants, or go for the one with a keychain to attach to the rest of your keys. We are yet to find AAA flashlights larger than the average palm, and so we recommend that you stick with standard measurements of this is what you are going for.

Brightness of the Torch

You will know a flashlight’s brightness by its lumens. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light and also the stronger the beam. There is more to consider: the color of the LED. Cold white light is energy efficient, and so your battery will last longer while a warm (brownish) flashlight will illuminate colors better. Both of them will illuminate brightly, but the outlook may be different where colors are involved.

What is the ideal number of lumens for a flashlight? Anything between 75 and 85 is perfect since it will not blind you with brightness, but you can go higher depending on your intended use for the flashlight. 150 lumens will be super bright and ideal for the outdoors.

A Throw or a Flood?

Do you want a narrow beam or are you looking for a broader beam? Contrary to popular belief, flashlights can either give you a blinding, narrow beam or widen it to reduce the distance traveled. The best is the kind that balances both qualities because they are both ideal, and so you want to factor that in during purchase. If you select carefully, you will get one that allows you to toggle the modes and get the perfect balance between throw and flood. If you can only get one of the two features, we recommend you go for flood light for the broad coverage.

Click Switch vs. Twist Switch

If you are lucky, you will get a torch with a tail switch that will allow you to turn it on even when it’s in the pocket. Most of the time, though, you will only have a choice between a click and a twist switch. Twist means manipulating the head of the torch to turn it on and off, and also change the mode 9mayye from medium to high or low). Most flashlights do not save your preferred settings, and so you will need to adjust them whenever you turn it on.

Quality

If you’re going to buy a flashlight, make it worth every penny you spend. What’s the point of buying a very cheap Penlight that will give in after a few uses?  Quality to us is in the material, reaction to water, and the overall construction.

The material of choice for most manufacturers is airplane-grade aluminum, which is hard to destroy. Another thing you may want to look at is the construction to be sure that it is solid. The outer surface should be rough to avoid sliding when you place the Penlight down, and it would be even better if the surface is stable enough for the pen to stand on a flat surface. Seeing as you will be using the torch daily, you want it to be waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about where you place it. Even better if you are an underwater adventure seeker. Most of them will handle up to 2 meters of water, which is good enough for a torch its size and cost. Look out for warranty too (two years is good enough, but a guarantee of a lifetime is even better).

Battery Type and Runtime

AAA batteries are not only easily available, but they are also quite cheap. They last long too, which is what makes them a favorite of many flashlight manufacturers. Runtime depends on the mode that you run your flashlight at. If you are on high, then it is likely to get used faster than if it was on low or medium. AAA batteries last long but again it will all depend on usage.

What not to Consider

Price shouldn’t be a factor when you are investing. Cheap is just that; cheap, and so you want to make a purchase that will last as long as you will need it. The flashlights we are about to review cost less than $20 each, but they last years due to sturdy construction. The brand should not matter either as long as the product has all the qualities you want.

Ready to Get Yours?

AAA flashlights may look like a joke when you are used to their larger counterparts but wait until you turn it on! The brightness will astound you! They are designed for those who don’t have too much space for carrying a larger flashlight but could still use some lighting at some point. We said from the beginning that their beam is not as wide as the larger ones, but you do understand that they are much smaller. Still, 45 meters of illumination for the price of two coffees is a worthy deal!

The AAA flashlights we have reviewed are made of the sturdiest material, and so they will not give in on you for years. They are also economical seeing as small AAA batteries are not costly, especially when you buy by the dozen. While they are all great, we highly recommend Thru-Nite AAA Flashlight

This flashlight is not only made of durable material, but it also illuminates up to 45 meters. One battery can last for 6 hours if you use it on low. It has four modes for better control, and you get a 2-year warranty from the maker. It’s ideal for dog walking (at night), treks in the woods, home use, and backpacking. The price is icing on the cake.

Compare Redline flashlight to others

Why Choose Redline Flashlight but not others?

Tactical flashlights aren’t exactly cheap, and like every other high-end flashlight, you expect it to last long enough working perfectly. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case always. Having tried my hands on different designs and brands of flashlights, which all lie in a junk box at the moment, I know what a good flashlight is. Or, at least I understand what to look for.

After many years of research, firsthand experiences and the experiences of others, the Redline line of flashlights is one of the best. It is the reason why I have a couple of redline flashlights in the garage, kitchen and the car.

The Redline flashlights boast of the following features:

High-powered lights – a powerful flashlight should point objects even in pitch darkness and the Redline flashlights do this well. Their high-powered LED lights make them bright but still safe on the eyes. With the high power, the flashlight illuminates a larger area and a longer distance than other flashlights.

Different modes: the flashlights are among the more versatile than other flashlights I have used before. The most common modes that make the flashlights ideal for every homeowner, camper, and driver include the primary mode that offers the maximum illumination. They also have an S.O.S mode, Strobe, medium and low light modes.

These light modes are important as they determine how long the flashlight will stay on. The best Redline flashlights have S.O.S and Strobe modes which allow for the use of the flashlights for up to 72 hours.

Durable design: despite the high-tech features which make for multiple functionalities, the Redline flashlights boast of durable designs resulting from their construction using aircraft-grade anodized aluminum. The use of aluminum also makes the flashlights lightweight, impact and water resistant.

Rear operation: unlike other flashlights, the Redline flashlights feature easy-to-use designs. They have a rear ON/OFF button which glows in the dark so that you can find and use the flashlight in pitch darkness.

Hands-free operation: the flashlights come with a magnetic base which sticks to any metal surface. So, you can fix a minor car issue in the dark without worrying about where to put the flashlight. If camping, you can cook or pitch your tent without an extra set of hands.

So, if you are looking for the best surveillance flashlights, flashlights for tactical training or powerful flashlights to keep in the car for emergencies, you should try the Redline flashlights.

Factors to Consider When Buying the Redline Flashlight

You are going to need a flashlight even if you aren’t going for any tactical training. A flashlight is a handy tool when hiking, camping, jogging and when driving. Anything can happen, and despite having perfectly good eyes, humans are blind in the dark. Since the flashlight is your pair of eyes in the dark, you have to find the best pair.

With the right flashlight, you will find your direction, avoid danger and protect other road users.

Thanks to technological advancements, there are advances LED lights which aren’t just small but also powerful. A high-tech LED flashlight will illuminate your path in the dark for hours even when powered by simple AA or AAA batteries.

The big question, however, is how to find the Redline flashlight that has the best features and the highest functionality. To answer this, you have to know what to look for in a flashlight. The most important things to consider when buying a Redline flashlight include:

Type of light

The best Redline flashlights have LED lights. LED lights aren’t just right because of the small space they take but also because the lights will stay on for a long time. LED doesn’t greedily eat up the battery’s power. So, you get two benefits for the price of one; long battery life and bright lights.

Pro tip: when buying a LED flashlight, you should consider the use of the flashlight. You need a flashlight that will withstand the toughest conditions even if it falls. Don’t forget about the light output from the flashlight.

Reliability and durability

If you decide to buy the best flashlight, why not get a flashlight worth your money? You don’t need a flashlight that breaks or stops working after a few days. What makes a reliable flashlight? It doesn’t come with electrical issues, and it goes on or off when you need it to.

For a high level of reliability, the flashlight should have a body that withstands a few drops on soft and hard surfaces. Whether you like it or not, the flashlight will drop, just make sure that it can withstand the fall.

Pro tip: a reliable and a durable flashlight will not lose its brightness just because it fell. A reliable Redline flashlight has an aircraft-grade construction which makes it strong and resistant to breaks. Ask the seller and other users if the flashlight comes with a seal that protects it from dust, water or dirt. Lastly, check for shock-proofing features like an LED bulb.

Use

If you are buying Redline flashlight to use as a tactical flashlight, make sure that it meets the criteria for tactical flashlights. The tactical Redline flashlight is designed for use by law enforcement officers and the military though you can use it at home or when camping. They are light, small and durable

Pro tip: the unique identifying features of a tactical flashlight include LED, shock-resistant bulb, at least 100 lumens light output, solid construction and water, impact and shock resistance. They are also large enough to fit in hand with a good grip. With the strength, you can use a tactical flashlight as a striking weapon. The best Redline tactical flashlight also comes with a tail-mounted switch for instant switching, and it is small enough for an EDC.

Bezel

This is an important feature in most tactical flashlights. The bezel holds the lens of the flashlight to the body protecting the lens and the LED bulb from any damage.

Pro tip: although it doesn’t affect the light output directly, a flashlight missing the bezel won’t work. It is also important for protection in case of an attack, and you can use to strike your enemy with it.

Lens

When buying a Redline flashlight, it is important that you consider the type of lens. The lens protects the bulb, and it also keeps out dust and water.

Pro tip: the best Redline flashlights have a convex lens which increases the functionality of the flashlight. You can also use the lens to illuminate an area in different colors because different colors alter or enhance visibility.

The Bulbs

The best Redline flashlights have LED bulbs. The LED bulb can give about 50,000hours of continuous use. So, you will have one bulb for about five years.

Pro Tip: LED bulbs are preferable because they don’t have a filament. This makes them more shock resistant and more reliable. Also, LED lighting offers the best vision regardless of the existing environmental conditions.

Flashlight performance

You also need to consider the general performance of the flashlight. All flashlights are measured and rated using the ANSI FL1 standards put forth in 2009. The Redline flashlights meet the requirements of these standards.

To measure performance, you have to consider the light output, beam distance, the runtime, water resistance, and the impact resistance.

Pro tip: you cannot determine the fill performance and functionality of a Redline flashlight by considering one feature. You have to place all these elements under consideration. The battery type also affects the flashlight’s performance. Redline flashlights have disposable AAA or AA batteries.

Light Modes

Other than the high, low and medium light brightness, your Redline flashlight will also have additional special modes like SOS and Strobe. These are important features of tactical flashlights.

Pro tip: the best Redline flashlights have strobe and SOS modes. Strobe is an important feature for tactical cases as it confuses the targets. It creates a Bucha effect, and this is why you need this in a tactical training flashlight. SOS, also called Morse code is an important signaling feature. If you need a Redline flashlight for emergency purposes, make sure that it comes with an SOS feature.

Other features and factors include light filters, tail switch, reflectors, the price, as well as the size and the weight of the flashlight.

Conclusion

Why should you buy a Redline Flashlight and not any other flashlight? While there are many flashlight brands on the market, the Redline Flashlights are more versatile. They aren’t just survival tools but also great at signaling, and night maneuvers. Redline flashlights are known for harnessing their maximum potential. As a result, they are among the best tactical flashlights.

You may also need a redline flashlight because it has adjustable brightness and most of the flashlights on the Redline line have zoom features. The flashlights also have different modes which determine how long you will use the flashlight before it goes off.

Which is our best Redline flashlight? In this review of the top five Redline flashlights, it is clear that each flashlight has its unique features that make it an excellent choice in different conditions. Unfortunately, getting the best kayak cart isn’t as easy. Remember how you had to research for a kayak before finally buying the best one, the bad decisions you made? I did too. But, when my search for the best kayak cart begun, I had to make sure that I made few mistakes.

The carts are not very cheap and to prevent losing money, I made some mistakes on your behalf. My first two carts weren’t the best. As they say, experience is the best teacher but, you shouldn’t go through any of the bad experiences we’ve gone through. That is the purpose of this review – to help you make the best purchase worth your money once and for all.

Do you still need convincing as to why you need to buy a kayak cart?

Benefits of kayak carts

  • They save you from back injuries which are expensive and in the worst-case scenario, irreversible. Guys, don’t use your kayak as an opportunity to show off your abs. You may end up tearing more than a few muscles.
  • They make transportation of kayaks easier because kayaks are bulky and heavy. Not everyone lives close to the river, and in most cases, you’ll pack your car some distance from the river. A kayak cart will make it easy for you to transport the kayak to the river with ease. As you can guess, this will save you loads of time too.
  • Prevents damage to the kayak – dragging a kayak through stones and hard rocky surfaces may seem like the natural thing to do, especially if you are a guy but, doing that reduces the life of the kayak. To get value for your money and for the kayak to serve you for years, you’ll need the best kayak cart. Make sure that the cart has smooth edges to protect the kayak.
  • A kayak cart makes it easy for you to move the cart through sand.
  • The cart reduces unnecessary physical work because you can use the kayak cart to load up extra personal items. Kayaking gear and equipment can also fit in the cart.

Factors to consider when buying a kayak cart

Choosing the right kayaking cart determines if your kayaking expedition down the river or the fishing trip will be fun or not. This is because the cart gives you the perfect means of getting the kayak to the water safely. You should consider the following:

The kayak cart style

There are three main kayak cart styles – end cart style, plug in cart style, and the strapped cart style.

  • End cart styleThe cart is at the rear side of the kayak. No need to strap the kayak. It isn’t compatible with wider kayaks.
  • Plug in cart styleCarts’ plugged into the kayak’s scupper holes. These are mostly the sit-on-top style kayaks with scrapper holes in the tank well. They are easy to install, but you may have to stick to brand-specific kayaks and carts because of different fits for the scupper holes.
  • Strapped cart styleYou strap the kayak over the cart’s roof rack. The straps can be loose, and you may need two straps to hold the kayak in place firmly.

Pro tip: the style chosen for the cart should match the kayak. To choose the best, make sure you look at the installation procedure and go with the one that is easy to install or the one that will keep the kayak stable.

The size and the material of the tire

The right tire will make it easy for you to move through the roughest terrain with ease. A rough, puncture-free tire will maneuver through the rough and hard gravel much easier without causing any damage to the kayak.

There are pneumatic, foam-filled, balloon, and plastic tires. Your choice should be a determined by the cost and the area you’ll be traversing. Rubber/ pneumatic tires are highly recommended.

  • Plastic tire cartsThey are lightweight and easy to carry or store. They are also cheaper but suitable for paved surfaces and nor sand. The tires won’t become flat.
  • Pneumatic tire cartsOn the other hand, work on all surfaces because you can regulate the tires’ pressure to suit use on different terrains. They run the risk of being flat.
  • Balloon tire carts Work well on sandy surfaces but, they are expensive and run the risk of being flat.
  • Foam-filled tire cartsCan also work on any surface, but they become flat. The other downside is that you cannot regulate pressure on such tires. They are also expensive.

Pro tip: before shopping for a kayak cart, predetermine the environment you’ll use the cart on and the cost of the cart tires.

Adjustable width

The width of the kayak will vary. The variations depend on the manufacturing/ design company.

Pro tip: To get the right size, consider the width of the kayak and use that to select the kayak cart with a similar width or a slightly bigger width. In case you have different types of kayaks, choose the cart with enough space (width).

Frame construction

Is the frame resistant to corrosion? Whether you intend on taking your kayak to the river, lake or the ocean, the frame should not react with water. Choose carts made of durable and water resistant materials.

Pro tip: choose stainless steel or aluminum carts.

Ease of storage

Will the kayak cart fit in your garage when not in use without cramming spaces or being an inconvenience?

Price

How much does the cart cost? Are there offers you can take advantage of? Is the deal too good to be true?

Expert tip: never compromise quality of a kayak cart for price. Online sites such as Amazon offer good deals on high-quality kayak carts.

Conclusion

The best kayak cart makes it easy for you to transport your kayak or canoe to the river, lake and the ocean. It protects your back and your spine from damage by saving your from unnecessary work. The cart also protects the kayak from abrasions and punctures.

Having looked at the features that make up best cart – the wheels, frame construction, padding, weight capacity or adjustable width, you can tell that these five make a fair cut to our top five, you’ll also notice that they are relatively priced and highly functional.

Out of these five kayak carts, only one wins – the Malone Clipper Deluxe Universal Kayak Cart. It has a universal frame that supports all kinds of canoes and kayaks.

It also comes with an airless “Never-Go-Flat” 10-inch removable wheels which can move easily through hard and rough terrains. These wheels are puncture-free and they will pop off the cart’s frame fast for storage once you reach the river/ lake/ ocean and you are ready to experience nature or head back home.

The cart has a maximum carrying capacity of 200lbs and the tie-down straps make it easier for you to pack the kayak or canoe. It is also lightweight and the padding means that the kayak’s hull will remain safe.

Though this Malone Clipper takes the day for us, you should note that all the other four carts are excellent for your use to your next kayaking trip.

The Best Petzl Harnesses for Men and Women

A harness is a system that connects the climber to a rope. Some of its more important parts are the belay loop and the gear loop. They vary according to the nature of your climb, weather, and sometimes gender. If you are a mountaineer or just getting started on mountain climbing, you know that a harness is one of the most valuable tools for your (new) hobby. Well, we would like to emphasize that not just any brand goes- a Petzl harness is very popular among pro climbers.

So what is a harness? It is a system that connects the climber to a rope to keep them safe when going up a mountain. The rope is attached to the anchor. The entire system works as one to help you hoist yourself up rocky mountains. It would be unthinkable to try mountain climbing without a harness. Actually, you wouldn’t get far considering the formation of the rocks.

1. Petzl Selena Women Climbing Harness – super light, safe

This colorful harness is female morphology specific and designed and stitched for comfort. The sides are a little thicker than most harnesses, and the loops are foam padded.

The waist belt and leg loops, which are quite thick, are wider on the sides are reinforced with double stitching to ensure that they hold the climber securely.

Still, on the waist belt, the manufacturer has put more stitching emphasis on the points likely to give in to pressure as well as make it adjustable for sizes up to 37 inches. It only has one buckle on the left side, and so it needs proper fitting to get a harness that is snug yet leaves space to breathe.

When buying this harness, you will need to be certain of your size. Petzl has them in various sizes, from small to extra large, and you can use one of the charts on their website to be certain of your size. The leg loops are not adjustable which only emphasizes the need for proper prior fitting. One thing is sure, though: this harness is true to size.

All parts are foam-padded, and the material is breathable. It is not ideal for winter but will do for the rest of the seasons. Oh, and it only comes in bright colors: pink and raspberry. It is also quite cheap.

PROS

  • It is super light and so mostly ideal for sports climbing.
  • Double-backed waist buckle ensures safety.
  • It wears well.

CONS

  • The fitted leg loops may be a problem when your weight fluctuates.
  • Open foam is not ideal for winter climbing.

2. Petzl Luna Women Climbing Harness – durable, colorful

This turquoise harness comes with four gear loops and double stitching on all points that are likely to hold too much pressure. As is Petzl’s trademark, it only has one buckle to the left at the front. It is also true to size. If you find turquoise too bright, they have gray too.

The white belay loop is properly stitched into the harness, connecting the waist belt to its leg loop. Instead of plastic, loop gears on this harness are nylon webbing that can handle quite heavy gear. The waist belt and leg loop both give the impression of being a little too thin, but we tested and confirmed that they are ideally padded.

The foam on this is open, with tiny holes that make its material breathable. This holes could allow water in and soak the foam from the inside, which would add excess weight, or even pose a health concern. Since the harness itself is quite light and suited for sports climbing or indoor sports, this will not be an issue. We would not recommend it for rainy seasons either (but we doubt you will be climbing rocks in the rain).

On the leg loops, you have a buckle on each side for fastening. They (leg loops) are a fixed fit, and so we advise that you check your exact size in Petzl’s online chart.

PROS

  • The fitted leg loop ensures a snug fit.
  • We like the colors and the wider waist belt.
  • Made of durable material: polyester, nylon, ad EVA foam.

CONS

  • Since the fitting is fixed, the leg loops tend to be either too small or too big for most people.
  • Because it has only one buckle, you will have few options for adjustment.

3. Petzl Falcon Climbing Harness – perfect fit, sturdy

Petzl has made this harness a bit different from most of theirs: it is black with a few yellow impressions. Most climbers will agree that it comes as a welcome relief from all the brightly colored harnesses.

They have designed it for suspended rescue, with the waist belt being thicker than usual and with enough EVA foam for comfort. Waist size is restricted to 37.3 inches for the large harness. The company stocks both small and medium as well.

Leg loops on this Falcon harness extend to 24.4 inches for this large size. It fits true to size, which is why you will need to confirm your ideal size from Petzl’s online chart.

On the front part, you have a metal ventral attachment point that distributes the weight between the legs and the waist. The two buckles on each side of the waist belt are self-locking to make for quick adjustment, and the same goes for buckles on leg loops.

Since it is a rescue harness, you have four robust loops for hauling needed equipment. There are two on the side and two at the rear part, designed in such a way not to interfere with a backpack.

PROS

  • You can adjust the foam on leg loops for a perfect fit.
  • Sturdy construction.
  • It is adjustable and has two buckles on the waist belt.

CONS

  • Expensive.
  • Limited colors.

4. Petzl Pro Avao Bod Women Climbing Harness – solid construction

Shifting from the conventional designs of harnesses that connect from waist and to the lower body, Avao Bod Fast Harness is one for the entire upper body. It, of course, comes with better reinforcement and heightened comfort levels, but you will have to dig deeper into your pockets.

The X-shaped dorsal construction of Petzl’s Pro Avao Bod makes you feel as though your body is in a safe blanket. It is comfortable, with enough padding for legs, back, and waist belt. Its waist belt is larger than that of most harnesses, and it supports the small of the back ideally.

Your double metal attachments connect the top and middle parts of your body to your legs so that weight is equally distributed. It has self-locking DoubleBack buckles on the shoulders, the waistline, and on each of the leg loops.

This harness is an expensive investment, and so you should have an expert fit you for size. Leg loops are true to size, but the waist belt is adjustable.

PROS

  • Solid construction.
  • Hugs the entire body.
  • Has self-locking DoubleBack buckles on all three points.

CONS

  • Expensive.
  • Fitted leg loops.

The Best Women’s Harness For The Money

When making our decision, we looked at the material longevity of the harness, breathability, and function. We tested this harness and were impressed at what you could get for such a reasonably priced harness. We have heard reviewers say it can take a beating, even after daily use for a prolonged period.

The belay loop is super rigid, as are the self-locking buckles. The fitting is perfect as long as you get one designated for your dimensions. It is super light at 400 grams, and so we recommend it for all-around adventure except for ice climbing.

The only downside is the non-adjustable leg loop, but overall, we think Petzl Selena Climbing Harness is a steal.

1. Petzl Sama Men Climbing Harness – excellent resistance

Although the color may be too little too bright for some men, Petzl Sama Climbing Harness has great features. Its price is also unbeatable.

At the front, the belay loop connects waist belt and leg loop, and it has been carefully double stitched for tenacity. Two gear loops are at the back while the other two prominently feature on the side.

The waist belt, wide and padded with EVA foam for comfort, accommodates sizes 76 to 86cm, but that is for the medium-sized harness.

The company carries small through large sizes. It has a self-locking buckle on the left side for sizing up. Its EndoFrame construction distributes weight equally during suspension.

Petzl Sama Climbing Harness has no leg loop adjustment. It requires that you know your ideal size before placing your order. The upside to this design is that leg loops are elastic, and so they fit snugly and will not expand for as long as the harness lasts.

PROS

  • Fitted leg loops do not expand.
  • Its EndoFrame construction distributes weight.
  • Its Dyneema tie-in points offer excellent resistance to rope friction.

CONS

  • Fitted leg loops are not for everyone.
  • It runs small.

Check Current Price on Amazon

2. Petzl Adjama Men Climbing Harness – safe, adjustable

Blue has never been too hard on the eyes, and so this harness is quite the looker. Its DoubleBack Light buckle placed on the left side does not interfere with belaying. It also leaves enough space for the left side for one gear loop. Three others go round the harness to make four.

Because it has only one buckle, waist circumference for X-large is 89 – 99 cm. Some reviewers have complained that Petzl’s sizes do not consider climber caught between two sizes, say, you are too big for medium but still too small for large.

Since these harnesses are true to size, you may have to make a compromise (take a larger size and adjust it).

Leg loops have a self-locking buckle on each side, and X-large fits 60 to 70 cm. It is made of Nylon, polyester, and EVA foam. The foam makes the harness comfortable and yet breathable, but you cannot shift it to be more accommodating. Tie-points on the belay loop prevent rope friction.

PROS

  • It has four gear loops.
  • Waistbelt and leg loops have doubled straps for safety.
  • Leg loops are adjustable.

CONS

  • It runs small.
  • It is not heavy-duty enough to sit on for about an hour if you weigh more than 150lbs.

Check Current Price on Amazon

3. Petzl Corax Men Climbing Harness – equally weight-distributed

In true Petzel fashion, this harness has a solid construction, and it is lightweight. They have also changed the color scheme to keep it simple yet elegant. The waistbelt is quite wide with EVA foam padding it for the climber’s comfort.

Petzl Corax Climbing Harness has a twist to it: closed foam, which makes it ideal for both summers and winters. It also has 2 buckles – one on each side of the waistbelt to keep the equipment loops in a balanced position.

On the side and at the back are four gear loops, each of which will take up to 10lbs of equipment. We would not advise that you do that since it would slow your ascent down. The back loops have been designed to prevent any interaction with a backpack.

PROS

  • Closed foam makes it ideal for winter climbing.
  • The loops distribute weight equally.
  • Adjustable leg loops accommodate layers of clothing on a winter climb.

CONS

  • The gear loops are not covered in plastic.
  • Closed foam is not very breathable.

Check Current Price on Amazon

4. Petzl Aquila Men Climbing Harness – comfortable pads

The price range of this gray harness is higher than the rest of our reviews in the men section, but its construction makes it all so worth it. It has four solid gear loops that are not covered in plastic, and a buckle on the side. It is made for summer as evidenced open foam and lack of ice clipper slots.

The waist belt on this harness is slightly different in that there are no breaking points that could exert pressure. Additionally, it is thicker with a thicker pad for a comfortable climb or suspension for up to 60 minutes.

To ensure that the belay loop has the tenacity to hold your body for hours, the manufacturer has double stitched the area around each possible pressure point. Buckles on the leg loops, back, and waist belt are self-locking and forged in aluminum to perfect their grip.

PROS

  • The waist belt, as well as leg loops, have thick yet comfortable pads.
  • Adjustable leg loops.
  • Thermoformed foam produces a unit with no pressure points.

CONS

  • Expensive.
  • Can run small unless you are fitted by an expert.

When to Buy a Harness

Harnesses are in most cases a reserve of the outdoorsy person, specifically those who are into rock climbing. You will, however, also need a harness for indoorwall climbing. If you plan to be an avid climber, it will serve you well to invest in one.

Outdoor activities can be quite challenging. Before you pack up for Nepal to scale Everest, try climbing a few local hills and mountains first. You will find enough challenging rocks to get you started. The thing about owning a harness as opposed to renting one every time you need it is the convenience. You are motivated to climb (indoors or outdoors) more often, and you get used to having it around your waist.

Renting costs money. If you add it all together, the cost of buying your harness will be much lower. Besides, you get to choose one that suits you to a tee.

Buying One Already?

The market is literally littered with harnesses. Every gear shop has one of a different brand and naturally, you are bound to get confused. What is your intention when buying this harness? We would assume that yours will be for mountain climbing in this case.

  • Color is No Deal BreakerYou would think that it would matter what color you choose, but boy are you wrong. Okay, if you find the perfect harness in your favorite color, good for you. But under normal circumstances, you might not need a brightly colored one for rescue missions. You have bigger fish to fry.
  • BrandConsumers have had their heads wrapped around big names. That is not a bad idea at all, buying from renowned brands, seeing that they have been around long enough and have done extensive research in the product they bring to the market. However, you can always find equally good harnesses from the little-known brands, and at better prices.
  • How Much Is It?Would you rather pay a little bit more for a product you believe in or would you leave it for a cheaper brand? Price does not always equal to quality, and so it should not influence your decision. However, you should always look out for a good bargain. Those factors should not influence your decision when buying a harness. What should?

Before You Buy a Harness, Consider These Factors

All harnesses are designed with the equal ability to provide maximum support while rock climbing. However, the type of climbing will also call for a few tweaks in design.

An all-around harness will be mid-weight, with breathable material and foam on both the leg loops and your waist belt (both of which are adjustable). We will talk about gear loops later. They are ideal for just about any challenge-even ice climbing, if they have ice clip slots.

Winter harnesses cannot use open foam, as they would absorb water that will freeze and become unmanageably heavy. Instead, closed foam is used, which is less breathable but more robust. The gear loops will be larger, and the leg loops adjustable.

  • Sizing Up the WaistThe waist belt, also known as Swami belt, needs to fit snugly o the waistline. It should be tight yet comfortable, but at the same time impossible to pull down. Seeing that you will attach it to your hip, you may need to consider the weight. The standard harness has one or two buckles. They are usually placed a little to the side to avoid conflicting with the rope tie-in. A harness must have a buckle or buckles for the waist but not necessarily for the leg loops.
  • The Bottom PartLeg loops should be aptly padded for comfort, and roomy enough for you to add or remove layers without fastening the loop. An adjustable is ideal for mountaineering and ice climbing where you would need to put boots on before you secure the harness. However, fitted leg loops are perfect when doing indoor climbing.
  • Gear LoopYour harness of choice should have at least 2 gear loops, although there is no limit to the number. Two loops are ideal for gym and indoor climbing, seeing that you will not need to bring too much along. If you are an ice climber or multi-pitcher, you will need four or more gear loops.Gear loops are designed for hauling equipment such as nuts, cams, and quickdraws, and they are mostly made of plastic. You can even customize some harnesses with removable plastic gear loops.
  • Belay LoopThis loop is the most important on a harness as it is the only load-tested part. A belay loop connects the waist belt to your leg loop. One of the reasons that make it a vital component is the fact that a locking carabiner is attached to it when you are belaying. Your belay loop should be strong and rigid and made of nylon webbing.
  • Ice Clipper SlotsIf your adventures are likely to send you to snowy mountains, you will certainly need a harness with ice clipper slots. The slots are on each side of the harness, attached to the waist belt.
  • The ConstructionYou will be wearing it on your body, which will be generating heat from the ascent. Go for comfortable yet breathable material to heighten your experience. The more expensive the harness, the more likely it is to be breathable and comfortable. It will also serve you longer.

Best Value For Your Money…(Men’s Section)

Based on overall construction, Petzl Sama Climbing Harness is the best value for money. The belay loop is strong to hold you for a prolonged time while you marvel at nature, while EndoFrame construction distributes weight equally.

The harness is ridiculously affordable too. We do not hate Petzl’s three-year guarantee. The color is, well, a little off-putting, but we will overlook that.

Now, you can see!

Don’t you wish you could see far away objects clearly whenever you went out hunting, hiking, birdwatching or camping? If you are like me, then, without assisted visual devices, you miss many wonderful objects and moments as you wait for your partner to hand you their binoculars.

After countless missed moments and living with the fact that I didn’t have the best camera or telescoping device to catch all the amazing moments, I decided to buy the best monocular.

Besides missing all those moments, I noted that remembering all the details of an outdoor excursion isn’t as easy.

Memories get distorted and we forget some things – asking our friends for the photos they took during an excursion that took place months or years back isn’t the easiest thing to do when you hate asking.

And, even though we keep memories in the brain for years, science shows that every time we remember or replay a memory, the original images get distorted. You shouldn’t also forget that accidents happen and when you suffer brain damage or any sickness that causes amnesia, images of your past can jerk you back to life.

Considering all these setbacks and the fact that there is a smaller and a lighter telescope than binoculars offering a superior level of magnification, I had to look for the best monocular on the market.

Seconds after using my monocular, I realized that I had been missing a powerful gem. Besides bringing far away images closer without distorting their characteristics, I could and still take my monocular everywhere. It is lightweight, and most of the monocular are ultra-compact.

Type of monoculars

  • Night vision monocularsThese monoculars are also common but are majorly used for clear vision. They produce clear images in low-light conditions or darkness. They are common with hunters. You can also use them during the day and at night.
  • Thermal imaging monocularsThese are high-quality monoculars that are surprisingly readily available on the market. As suggested by the name, they can detect heat from human, animals and even machines. By detecting heat, they develop clear and crisp images of the objects in the dark surroundings. They also work during the day, and you won’t have to switch for use.Since thermal imaging monoculars lack infrared light, the images are less visible at night.
  • Infrared monocularsThese are regarded night vision monoculars, and they illuminate objects offering clear and bright images at night. They also work during the day. Infrared monoculars use a particular wavelength to illuminate objects. The best infrared monocular lets you turn on or off the night vision feature conveniently. Despite the dual functionality, the monoculars are affordable. Note that some may infrared devices may disturb animals at night.

Pro tip: the type of monocular chosen should be able to offer effective day vision. While your intended purpose for buying matters, it is also important to consider buying a monocular that won’t limit function, especially during the day.

Magnification

The magnification of the monocular refers to the power of the device’s lens determined by the magnifying power and the diameter of the lens. In simple terms, this is how big the image is compared to the object.

Pro tip: for bigger images, choose a monocular with a high magnification power.

Lens diameter

This diameter determines the diameter of the lens in millimeters. A device with a large diameter lets in more light for brighter images in low-light qualities. For high-light conditions, a small diameter lens is preferable.

Expert tip: avoid monoculars with large lens diameters if you intend to use the device during the day.

Exit pupil size

This is the ratio between the diameter of the lens and the magnification. It determines the amount of light transmitted to the eye.

Tip: a big exit pupil size offers better light transmission resulting in sharper and brighter images even in low light.

Lens coating

The lens’ coating determines the monocular’s refractive power. By refracting light, the image appears darker than the object. The darker images are of better quality.

Pro tip: for bright and clear images, choose an anti-glare lens or a multi-coated lens. Either of this will increase transmission of light making the image sharper. The type of coat determines the price of the monocular and fully-multi coated lenses are expensive.

Prism type

Prisms magnify images, but the level of magnification depends on the prism type. There are Porro, roof and Galilean prism systems.

Tip: Though the Porro prism is the most common type of prism, the roof prism system offers a higher magnification. The Galilean prism has a lower field of vision, and it has a low magnification.

Field of view

This refers to the width of the area seen when you stand 1000 yards away.

Pro tip: the field of view increases when the magnification decreases.

Material

High-quality monoculars are a result of construction using high-quality materials which include magnesium and hard plastic.

Pro tip: look for a monocular with a rubber coating on the body to offer a firm and a non-slip grip and shock absorption.

Waterproofing and fog

The best monocular will allow use in extreme and erratic weather because of dust and waterproofing construction. Look out for a monocular with a waterproofing sealing ring which will protect the monocular in a case of submersion.

An internal nitrogen atmosphere prevents fogging on the inside.

Tip: to prevent moisture and fog, you will have to purchase an expensive monocular.

Use

What will you use the monocular for? Some of the main uses of monoculars include bird watching, hunting, fishing, hiking, tracking, reading, and golfing. The device you buy should let you perform every intended task seamlessly. Some monoculars are ideal for military activities.

Expert tip: In case you have impaired vision in one eye, and you like partaking in an outdoor activity such as bird watching, get the best monocular.

Pro tip: choose a monocular with a strapped carrying case for portability.
